Simon Carmichael

Simon Carmichael is of the Quandamooka people. He is deeply interested in the power of storytelling and driven to work on projects that recognise First Nations cultures and connections.
As Senior Associate of Public Art at Blaklash, Simon collaborates with artists and communities to help bring their visions to life and facilitate delivery of outcomes in the public realm. With extensive experience in public art management, Simon has worked on national and international projects, including cultural public art at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC USA, QUT Kelvin Grove in Brisbane, and the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in London.
Simon is currently a member of the ArtsACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Space Reference Group for Canberra’s Kingston Arts Precinct, and the Indigenous Australians Advisory Committee for the Queensland Music Festival.

Richard joined Cox Architecture in 2001 and became a Director of the practice in 2007.
Richard has undertaken a diverse portfolio of projects throughout his career, including the Fujitsu Headquarters at Newstead Riverpark for which he worked on the Master Plan. Richard was project architect for the Singapore Management University Headquarters tower and extended his commercial building expertise with the Energex Headquarters at Newstead – the first commercial building in Queensland to be awarded a 6-star Green Star As-Built status.
Richard is passionate about cultural and transport sectors, completing notable projects across both typologies. He was the project director for the Stage 1 Refurbishment of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland Museum and the Jakarta International Velodrome.
Richard has lead Cox’s ongoing commitment to the community through his involvement in Youngcare. COX have completed three projects for housing young people with disabilities since 2005 and these represent leading thinking in the areas of design and policy approach. Richard is a leader of the eCOX sustainability group.
As the Sustainability Project Technical Lead at Stantec, Shanica has driven the sustainability framework with her knowledge from 17 years of architecture and her sustainability expertise. She dedicates her time to improving multiple sustainability systems locally and internationally. Her contributions include her work as an advisor for IWBI, WELL Health Equity and Community Concept, a member of the GBCA Green Star People & Wellbeing Expert Reference Panel and Living Future Institute Australia’s Technical Working Group. She has led and developed designs for projects across the community, sports and leisure, health, senior living, education, and residential sectors.
Shanica is a registered architect, Living Future Accredited Professional, Certified Passivhaus Designer, WELL Accredited Professional, and Green Star Accredited Professional (in Buildings, Communities and Performance). She is the 2022 finalist of the NAWIC NSW Awards for Excellence, and CPB award for Contribution to Sustainability. She is especially interested in biophilic design, and healthy, equitable and low-carbon buildings.
